Beauty Biographies - Kim White
When completing Matriculation in 1967, I was successful in my application for a position with the SEC in Melbourne. After two years in the big horrible smoke, Pat Canny had just retired from the SEC Merchandise position in Hollands St, Mt Beauty in 1970. I was successful when applying for that position and returned home to my beloved Kiewa Valley.
I married in 1973 having two children. We had built our first home in Wermatong Ave, Mt Beauty, sold and then built another in Simmonds Creek Rd, Tawonga South. In 1982 I succeeded in my application for a promotional position with the SEC back in Melbourne.
The Melbourne working years through to 1989 was as a Health and Safety Coordinator until the SEC was privatized. I then became the Risk Management Officer for the Springvale City Council up until council amalgamations in 1995. I married Helen in 2001. Between us now, we have four children and 9 grandchildren.
My formal working career ended in 2011 with Kmart as a Distribution Centre Analyst. I then semi-retired to a hobby farm in Northern Victoria, selling that in 2013 to fully retire and persue our dream of traveling around Australia in our great new home on wheels, stopping off to work part time here and there. Family illness brought us back to Melbourne in 2016 and living in Boronia, we both started working for Bunnings and myself Uber. We then started preparing for another adventure within two years
A stroke of luck saw Bunnings adopt the policy of "Travelling Australia With Bunnings", so in September, 2016 we headed off exploring NSW and Queensland on our way to work with Cairns Central Bunnings. Another stroke of luck saw Uber enter Cairns and being more lucrative, we ended Bunnings employment and now enjoy the flexibility, social interaction and rewarding benefits that the rideshare business is bringing to us both.
So, 32 years in Mt Beauty, 32 years in Melbourne and now starting another 32 years of doing whatever in the beautiful Far North City and surroundings of Cairns. I might be dreaming in saying that, but I am not dreaming when I say I will always remember the wonderful friends and that cherished country upbringing of that great foundation of life in the Kiewa Valley.
Footnote: The above Bio is a shortened version. When I took a gap-year from work in 2014, and travelled Australia, caravaning gave me plenty of time to write my Memoirs. So for a full Biography, with some very funny stories, you may like to visit www.akiewakid.weebly.com/
